Our Desire Street team and many volunteers just finished our 3rd Annual Desire Cup golf tournament fundraiser. It was a fun event designed around the Florida-Georgia football rivalry. (See www.thedesirecup.com for more information.) Over 200 people attended, and were very generous in supporting both Desire Street and our ministry partners. While my Gators didn’t win the day in football, our Florida golf team took home the trophy again this year!

I’m very grateful for all the work that went into an event like this—words just never seem enough. Our Director of Business Development Sara Pace spent many long hours organizing a few hundred people and a million details. Our Development Coordinator Ebonie Sanders did an amazing job keeping track of everyone and everything, and keeping everyone and everything on track. Our staff (including Ashlie Kyles, Chris Fitzgerald, and Diane Hitzfeld), and volunteers (Jim and Joanna Pope, and Jeff Pace) completed tasks and lent a hand every step of the way.

But we could not have pulled this off without the help of some very special volunteers. Our Tournament Director, Mitch Mitchell, is the man who dreamed of this four years ago. He is the “man behind the curtain” on all of the golf details, right down to the logo on the covers of the putters. He is joined by the world’s best volunteer committee: Jill Arnold, Dean McQuiddy, and Ben Wuerffel.

I’m grateful to the Florida and Georgia “greats” who were with us and gave of themselves in order to help: Emmitt Smith, Shane Matthews, Chris DiMarco, Lindsay Scott, Kevin Butler, John Lastinger, Judd Davis, Terrence Barber, Travis McGriff, Musa Smith, and Marcus Stroud. I also want to thank comedian Kenn Kington and Wuerffel Trophy Executive Director Tom Brassell for such an enjoyable program at dinner Thursday night. Thank you too to Florida State Senator Aaron Bean who auctioneered our live auction.

Of course our sponsors and participants made it all possible, and our goal—raising funds to rebuild our ministry center in New Orleans—made it all worthwhile.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated.
