Good Friday Morning

Good Friday morning to you!

I hope that, in the busyness of our everyday lives, you will be able to find a little quiet time over this holiday weekend to reflect on Easter and its meaning. The fact that we worship a living Savior who was stronger than the grave — has implications not only for eternity past and future, but also in how we approach everyday life in the world today.

I am reminded of Hebrews 13:8 which says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Particularly in the fast-paced, ever-changing world of urban ministry, as well as in light of current events in our country, it is comforting to be able to hang our hat on the stability of Jesus Christ and biblical truth. Sometimes it seems like it is the only sanity we can find! It certainly is the key to sustainability for us here at Desire Street, for all our ministry partners, and for everyone who believes what is written in the Bible about Jesus Christ.

I often feel blessed to have been born after Resurrection Sunday. Knowing the glorious ending before I take my annual remembrance walk through the heinous events leading up to and including that Friday 2000+ years ago gives me the luxury of a perspective that the world did not have on the first Good Friday. I am sad but I do not despair. I am sorrowful but appreciative. From every human viewpoint, that day was a Bad Friday, but I know it to be the best Friday to have ever happened to those who know Jesus through an authentic relationship.

I hope you have that kind of a relationship with Jesus of Nazareth today so that you too can have the Best Friday ever.
