It takes a team

It’s humbling, and I’m very grateful for the recent ESPN and SEC Network documentary, “Wuerffel’s Way.” I’m especially thankful that the documentary focuses attention on New Orleans and the challenges of inner-city poverty. If you’re reading this, I hope you’ll consider how you might help out.

The point I want to make is that it always feels kinda weird when folks give me so much credit, because in reality, I, like any quarterback, couldn’t do much of anything without a team.

Desire Street’s founder, Mo Leverett, forged the way in establishing this ministry in the Ninth Ward back in 1990. When the baton of Desire Street’s leadership was passed to me in 2006, I relied heavily, as I still do, on staff, donors, friends and family—people who are every bit as committed to the vision of revitalizing impoverished neighborhoods as I am.

Today, the real heroes are our ministry partners who live and work in the inner-city neighborhoods they love. Every day, they share God’s hope and encouragement with kids and families who face seemingly insurmountable odds in life. I hope when you think of me, you’ll pray for them.

And last, but really first, is God. It’s not me who is making any difference, it’s Him. Desire Street has been around for 25 years, and that’s all God’s doing. Please give Him all the glory.

  1. Danny,

Sitting in my LR on this Sat morning I was reflecting on my life and my circumstances. I am a married Christian man with my own family…but haven’t been “all in” with my daily walk with Jesus…Watching your story on ESPN was so encouraging to me. As believers, we are to lift each other up and encourage one another to exemplify His love. Thank you for allowing ESPN to tell your story Danny. God is using and will continue to use your success as a platform to bring glory to Him. May god continue to bless your ministry and your family.

    Dave

  2. Danny,

The way you have chosen to live your life is an inspiration to all of us who lack the courage of our convictions. I am sending a contribution to the Ministries today. I pray that God’s grace will be with you and the entire team at Desire Street always.
